COVID: What Now?

If you test positive for COVID (everyone, regardless of vaccine status):

  • ISOLATE for 5 full days after onset of symptoms or 5 full days after the test if you have no symptoms.

  • THEN, if symptoms are resolving after 5 days, you can leave your house (for essential activities like school and work).

  • CONTINUE TO WEAR A MASK around others for an additional 5 days.

If you have a fever, stay home until your fever resolves. Young children or persons who do not tolerate masks should isolate at home for the full 10 days.

*Date of onset or date of positive test is considered Day Zero: Isolation begins the following day and continues for 5 days.

If you were exposed to someone with COVID:

Are you: VACCINATED and boosted, if due (Boosted OR completed 2 doses of Pfizer/Moderna vaccine within the past 6 months OR completed primary series of J&J vaccine within the past 2 months)?

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO QUARANTINE BUT TAKE PRECAUTIONS:

  • You should wear a MASK around others for 10 days.

  • You should test on day 5, if possible.

  • If you develop symptoms, get a test and stay home while awaiting results.

Are You: NOT FULLY VACCINATED or not fully boosted (unvaccinated OR completed 2 doses of Pfizer/ Moderna vaccine more than 6 months ago and not boosted OR completed primary series of J&J vaccine more than 2 months ago and not boosted)?

YOU SHOULD QUARANTINE: Stay home from school and work.

  • You should STAY HOME FOR 5 DAYS and then wear a mask for an additional 5 days.

  • You should test on Day 5, if possible.

  • If you develop symptoms, get a test and stay home awaiting results.

*Date of exposure is considered Day Zero: Quarantine begins the following day and continues for 5 days.

Young children or persons who do not tolerate masks should quarantine at home for the full 10 days.

Note that Unvaccinated Household Contacts must stay home while COVID patient in the home completes a 5-day isolation. THEN quarantine for an additional 5 days, and then mask an additional 5 days after. If additional household members turn positive, the quarantine period for the contact is extended further: 5 days past when each patient in household finishes the 5 day isolation.

If you feel your child needs to be examined by a provider, you should make an in-person appointment or be seen at urgent care.
